In order to gather consumer feedback, I used the Online questionnaire website: https://www.surveymonkey.com
Q1)What kind of colour scheme would you expect from a college magazine?
I questioned people into what colours they would expect from a college magazine and the statistics show that, the majority of respondents (75%) would prefer both dark and bright colours. Despite this result, surprisingly 0% of my sample selected the option of dark primary colours which are often used to represent schools.
I think that my colour choices of red and yellow are suitable towards a college magazine because, red tones down the brightness from the yellow masthead preventing it from looking too childish and amateur.
Q2) Would you purchase a college magazine?
I asked my sample whether they would be interested in purchasing a college magazine; half of my respondents (50%) would be willing to buy a college magazine. On the other hand, the other half are either unsure or will not purchase a college magazine.
Q3) How good is the main image within the college magazine? e.g. very good, good, average
Respondent 1: "Good"
Respondent 2: "The image is very good as the models are both engaged."
Respondent 3: "Average"
Respondent 4: "Good"
Respondent 5: "Its good cause the girls smiling make the magazine have a feel-good smile."
As represented through the answers, most of my sample thought that my main image was above satisfactory.
The main image consists of smiling students within a bright lightning setting to, connote the good A level results achieved. Moreover, the image was captured beside the Leyton College entrance to link with the genre of a college magazine. To include, I made the models hold props of folders and books so that they appear more as intellectual students.
Q4) What could be improved about the main image?
Despite the positive responses towards the main image, I also wanted to find out the negative factors of the main image so that I can use them as tips for the following music magazine.
Respondent 1: "Colours"
Respondent 2: "I think there could be a colour scheme e.g. use 3 main colours
Respondent 3: "Lightning"
Respondent 4: "Nothing"
Respondent 5: "Brighter colours for youth"
Mixed answers here, but as the colours is mentioned more frequently next time I will chose my colours more thoughtfully.
Respondent 5 said that I should apply "brighter colours for youth" but that might seem too childish as my target audience is not youth, but young adults.
Q5) Is their any room for improvement towards the page layout?
Respondent 1: "No, the layout is fine, good use of colour and positioning."
Respondent 2: "Its fairly simple however, there may be too much text."
Respondent 3: "No"
Respondent 4: "All the cover lines should be on one side of the page rather than scattered all over the page"
Respondent 5: "Make the 'work achieve believe' bolder"
Respondent 2 explained that my page layout is simple but the text may be too much, how can the page layout be simple yet, the text is too much? Alternatively, next time I will try to cut out a few cover lines such as, the cover line above the masthead to avoid confusion; to contrast the masthead more.
Respondent 4 argued that the cover lines are 'scattered'; should be placed on one side of the page, I slightly agree and next time I will try to position my cover lines in a consistent and neat order. However, I think that my cover lines should not be placed at one side because, that will result in other sides of the page looking too vague.
Respondent 5 explained that I should make the motto of 'work.achieve.believe.' more bolder. That is a fair point as, making the text bolder will give more emphasis and attention towards the motto.
Respondent 1: "No, good font and colour, visually appealing."
Respondent 2: "The tile should be slightly larger"
Respondent 3: "No"
Respondent 4: "No"
Respondent 5: "What is masthead and cover lines?"
Respondent 2 explained that the title should be slightly larger, I'll try to make the title larger next time as I think people were confused between the main title and the cover line above.
